Dermalogica recently opened another concept store in Cape Town. This one being their smallest store yet and I recently attended the small, intimate launch at Somerset Mall. Don’t be alarmed, although tiny, size does not compromise service, and you will still be treated to the world-class experience, treatments and products synonymous with the Dermalogica brand. It’s a lovely little store, hosting the new look and feel and if you’re keen and in the area, pop by and pay them a visit at shop 201 Somerset mall opposite Forever New.
At the launch, we were updated and educated on their new Pro Power Peel treatment, launched in March of this year, which I had the pleasure of testing about 2 weeks ago.
We were also introduced to and gifted the new Prisma Protect SPF 30 and I won (yay me) the Sound Sleep Cocoon, a product I’ve been keen on trying for ages – review coming soon.

Some pics from the Somerset launch event, such a cute little store
For now, let me tell you about my Power Peel experience.
The new Dermalogica Pro Power Peel:
The Pro Power Peel comes in 3 different acid variations each aimed at treating specific concerns, these being:
- The Advanced-Renew Peel (Anti-aging) – 30% Glycolic Acid
- The Ultra-Bright Peel (Brightening and Hydration) -30% Lactic acid
- Power-Clear Peel (Breakouts & blemishes) – 2% Salicylic Acid, 25% blend of Mandelic Acid and Malic Acid and patented Terpineol-Thymol Complex
All peels are started with The One-Step Prep and ended with the Neutralizing solution.
- One-Step Prep – Not an acid but a leave-on prep solution with Witch Hazel and Alcohol which degreases the skin and prepares it for Pro Power Peel solutions.
- Neutralizing Solution – Not an acid but a ready-to-use neutralizer which helps soothe the skin and restore its natural pH

The Pro Power Peel team!
The peels are fully customisable and can be layered. The type of peel and how many layers is decided at the consultation and is based on your skin concerns and needs at the time, however, first-timers are started off with one layer and the most layers you can do per treatment is 5. Layering does not increase the percentage of the peel.
I had my treatment at the Dermalogica, Cavendish store and was super impressed. My therapist, Annique was lovely and very knowledgable. We started off by discussing my skin concerns and from there she advised on the best treatment for me, that being the Ultra-Bright Peel.
Once in the treatment room, I was made to feel very comfortable. Annique prepped and had a look at my skin and then went on to do the treatment starting with the one-step prep and ending with the neutralizing solution. The peel felt slightly tingly and a little stingy on my dryer areas, like around my mouth, chin and nostrils but was bearable and not at all uncomfortable. The rest is a blur as I was whisked off to dreamland by the most amazing neck and shoulder massage.
Post-treatment skin:
Once finished, Annique put together a little post-procedure skin fitness plan kit for me, containing some sample goodies from their Ultra-Calming range with a personalised note outlining my post-procedure routine for the upcoming week.
Post-treatment, my skin was absolutely fine and I didn’t experience any irritation or flaking, I think due to my skin being ‘fit’ and custom to professional treatments and I will most definitely up the layers next time.

My post-procedure skin fitness plan
Cost:
Pro-Skin 30 – R650.00 – 30-minute treatment. Can do up to 3 layers. This is a great option for someone on the go with not much time on their hands. You will most definitely see to your skin’s needs and still leave feeling refreshed and pampered.
Pro-Skin 60 – R850.00 – 60-minute treatment. Can do up to 5 layers. Includes a mask, treatment and massage. This is a great option for someone with a little more time on their hands and in need of little pampering.
Conclusion:
While writing this post, I felt quite nostalgic and ready to book in for my next treatment. Dermalogica have it down when it comes to professionalism and comfort and I have absolutely no criticism, I wouldn’t change a thing. I love that they’ve added professional chemical peels to their portfolio and will most definitely recommend them and will be booking in with them more often.
Hope you’ve found this review helpful. Till next time.
big love x
