Oway launches in South Africa and I review some of their goodies

Oway launches in South Africa and I review some of their goodies

In March of this year, I attended the launch of an awesome Italian brand, Oway which will be hitting South African stockist this month.

This is an exciting brand, not only for their products but for their entire ethos. Oway, which stands for Organic Way is a brand dedicated to sustainability and offer cruelty-free (PETA certified) top quality products.

Some pro photo’s taken by the talented Werner Ryke of me and some awesome lady bosses and the set up at the launch event.

Some of my own pics of the exciting products on display for everyone to test.

At the launch, I was given the Oway frequent wash hair & scalp bath and conditioner and the Materia face and body cleansing bar as a gift to try.

My thoughts on the goodies I received:

Frequent wash Hair & Scalp Bath and Conditioner:

The Hair & Scalp bath is said to gently cleanse and strengthen hair leaving it moisturised but not weighed down and I can confirm this to be true.

Although I don’t wash my hair frequently – yes the drought has taught me a thing or two – this product is great and I love the way my hair feels after a wash, soft, silky, lightweight and manageable. And although nourishing it didn’t leave it feeling heavy or oily, and I am still able to go 3 days between washes.

The conditioner is said to aid in quick detangling and moisturizing and nourishes and strengthens without weighing the hair down. Once again I can confirm this to be true.

Both products are natural and completely free from parabens / petrolatum / pegs, pg & bbg / edta / synthetic fragrance / artificial colorants, with a ph of 5.5 – 6.5 (shampoo) and 3,0 – 4,0 (conditioner).

I have used these and left my hair to dry naturally and have blow dried it out and both have left my hair equally manageable.

Ingredients:

Biodynamic lemon – Adds shine and revitalizes dull – matt hair thanks to the antioxidant properties of vitamin C.
Organic white tea – Rich in polyphenols, it has an anti-aging action and protects against oxidative stress.
Ethically-produced Anisata – antiseptic and antibacterial properties.

My beautiful gift, the frequent use hair & scalp bath and conditioner and Materia cleansing bar.

Materia Face and body cleansing bar:

This is a 100% natural purifying solid oil soap bar obtained from the solidification of olive oil and other precious vegetable oils, with a nourishing protective formula owing to its lipid-based composition. These beautiful ingredients create a soap with ultra-moisturizing properties, a velvety soft lather and slight exfoliation, to reveal radiant, hydrated skin.

Having more of a dry skin type, I find soap bars to be a little drying for my face and so I tend to shy away from these but after reading the ingredients was a little more at ease to give it a try. Although it wasn’t as drying as most bars it did leave my face feeling a little on the “squeaky” clean side, which some may like, but, I’m not so keen. It was however great on my body, and I’ll continue to use it for this, a luxurious body bar.

Ingredients:

Extra Virgin Biodynamic Olive Oil – Materia oil comes from olives harvested with the biodynamic method, hence exceptionally healthy and pure because no pesticides, fertilisers or synthetic products are used on soil or plants.

Organic Poppy Petals – Rich in alkaloids, poppy has antioxidant, anti-aging and soothing properties. Its petals help preserve skin youthfulness. Their texture also performs a gentle mechanical peeling that frees the skin of toxins and impurities and leaves it velvety smooth.

Ethical Babassu Oil – Babassu oil forms a protective layer on the skin that controls transepidermal water loss, retaining moisture on the skin and prolonging the softening, hydrating effect over time.

The Materia soap

The Ethos behind the Brand (The Oway way):

Biodynamic Ingredients:

The biodynamic agriculture movement works to guarantee the decontamination of the Earth and the renewal of agriculture, according to several objectives, some of these being:

  • Keep the land fertile from one cultivation to the next.
  • Keep plants healthy without using any chemical substances.
  • Produce ingredients rich in active ingredients and nutrients.

It is only from healthy, vital soil that the strongest plants, herbs and fruits rich in antioxidants and active ingredients can grow. Healthy soil is becoming a rarity as it loses vitality and energy, becoming depleted of nutrients and minerals due to being exploitation with intensive farming and being loaded with toxic substances.

The biodynamic method is the purest and cleanest type of cultivation: free from pesticides, herbicides, insecticides and synthetic fertilisers, it allows obtaining the most concentrated and effective active ingredients, in respect of the ecosystem.

Green Chemistry:

Green chemistry is the ongoing attempt to address problems that chemicals and chemical processes cause on the environment and encourages the design of products and processes that minimise the use and generation of hazardous substances.

Fair Trade

The goal of Fair Trade is to empower and reduce poverty for farmers and workers in developing countries. Not only by paying them more in the short term, but also helping improve their skills, build up their communities, and protect the local environment so its resources will be there for future generations.

Sustainable Development

Meeting our current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

Holistic Wellness

We hear the word holistic so much nowadays and this is basically a view of healing, considering the whole person body, mind, spirit and emotions. It’s a view of healing that includes the entire person.

Conclusion:

When typing up this blog post and doing the research I found myself feeling more and more excited about the brand. I am totally on board and would 100% recommend you give them a try. You will not be disappointed and you will be doing your bit for the environment by supporting a brand that does theirs.

I’m not 100% sure on stockists at the moment but you can email them at info@owaysa.co.za or follow them on Instagram.

If I do get more deets on stockists etc I will be sure to update via my Instagram page, so keep your eyes peeled.

Till next time x
