It’s been a very busy past few months and both the hubs and I have felt in desperate need of some RnR time! So we headed to the Life Day Spa Waterfront last Saturday to take advantage of their winter promo for just that!
The winter promo includes:
Middle Eastern Mud Ritual (Rasul) and a Luxurious Soy candle massage. We opted to add a Floatation pool session to this package.
It was our first time visiting and I must say we were both super impressed!
Let me whisk you through my experience and my thoughts on the spa:
Parking:
I found this to be a tad confusing and didn’t have a clue where to park. I called in and they suggested we park in the Breakwater parking area at the V&A. They do not have a lift going up from the parking to the spa, so you need to take a walk out and up the stairs.
Arrival:
We were greeted by friendly staff at the beautiful modern reception area and were each given a tablet to fill out our details. Love this paperless initiative!
We were then directed to the change rooms where we changed into our cozies and robes and packed our belongings safely into their computerized lockers.
Heated Tranquility Pool:
First stop was the Heated Tranquility Pool where we sipped champagne whilst relaxing in the bubbling warm water. The pool area was very chilled and all the other guests were in treatments so we had the whole area all to ourselves.
Middle eastern mud ritual chamber (Rasul chamber):
Next stop was the Middle Eastern Mud Ritual chamber. The chamber consists of a steam room and dry/treatment area where you apply exfoliant and mud.
Here we enjoyed a full body exfoliation. Once our bodies were fully exfoliated and rinsed we lathered ourselves up with medicinal earth mud to cleanse and detoxify. We then sat covered in mud in the steam room for approximately 20 minutes.
The treatment was completed by the start of the tropical rain shower which washed away the mud leaving us both feeling quite relaxed and rejuvenated. I must say, the rain shower is an amazing little extra but I did feel my anxiety kick in due to the drought and perhaps it’s something they can switch on to cue the end of treatment and then switch off. Users can then do their 2 min shower technique to rinse off the mud.
Floatation pool:
The flotation pool was next on our hit list. This is an interesting concept as it has been designed to mimic the Dead Sea. Apparently, 1 session (30 mins) floating in the pool is the equivalent of 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep hence I was super keen to try it out. Which mother wouldn’t be?
I can report that it was a very relaxing experience indeed! Our bodies felt completely weightless in the water as we drifted off while floating for 30 mins.
It’s amazing how water has such a relaxing and calming effect on the body.
One suggestion I would make is that if you are planning on experiencing the floatation pool, is to take ear plugs. Or perhaps they could look at offering earplugs with the use of this facility, as the day after I was left with a sore ear which had some water trapped. This, however, was easily sorted with a few drops of alcohol into the affected ear.
Relaxation area:
Once done in the floatation pool we headed to the relaxation area while we waited for our massage. This area is a nice chilled little spot but I felt they could have upped the snacks (apples, oranges, nuts and muffins) as in their reception area.
Luxurious Soy Candle Full Body Massage:
The massage room was absolutely stunning and they really have paid attention to detail right down to starting the massage off with the masseuse holding lavender just under your face to inhale 3 breaths, to ending with slipping your feet into warmed foot covers.
The beds were heated and I was extremely comfortable throughout my massage. The massage is started and ended with a chime, I thought this to be a nice touch.
I’m not sure what the difference was re: soy candle and normal oil as it felt just the same as normal massage oil.
The massage was absolutely amazing!
All in all, we had a wonderful afternoon and both left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated ready to take on the world.
Based on this experience I will most definitely be visiting again and will not hesitate to try out one of their other facilities within SA.
Promotions:
Their winter promo is a steal and I would recommend you take advantage of it during the cold wintery days.
They are also currently running a Pretty in Pink special, perfect for a girls day out or just a solo mission.
*Promotions end end of August.
